Whenever I get lazy I always turn to what I call fool proof dishes. Something easy, fast, still yummy and nutritious. I always have 2 pieces of sayote, 1 ampalaya and a bag of baby bokchoy in my crisper for times like these. For the “sahog”, it depends what my freezer had to offer, it could be chicken, pork or shrimp.
So the other night, I made this. I do the same procedure with ampalaya, but I soak it in water and salt first before cooking. You can also substitute pork or chicken for the shrimp, and you can also use upo if you don’t like sayote or ampalaya. :)
- 2 pieces sayote or chayote
- bawang, sibuyas
- 1/2 Knorr cube (chicken or shrimp) OR 2-3 cups of chicken broth
- 3 cups water (if using Knorr cube)
- whole shrimps ( you can also use pork or chicken cut in small pieces )
- salt and pepper to taste
In hot oil, saute garlic and onions. Add the sayote and then the broth or Knorr cube and water. Let it boil for 5 minutes and then simmer. Add the shrimps and let it cook in the broth for another 5 minutes. Don’t overcook! :)
If you are using chicken or pork, add the meat after sauteing the garlic and onions. And then add the broth, cook until meat is tender and then add the sayote.
